Mining enables you breaking stones to search for minerals and other valuable treasures. Simply use a Pick on stone to attempt breaking a stone, after several tries you should be able to break it down. Every stone in the game world regenerates after server save.
A regular pick has a small break chance while there are other tools such as dwarven pickaxe or stonecutter axe that enables you breaking stones, in this cases they will never break.

Using a Pick
A pick can be exchanged for a small axe at the village. Small axes are are droped by goblins.
While exploring underground dungeons you may find multiple kind of stones, you can only do mining in medium-sized stones, huge stones are way too hard for a pick to break.
To break a stone simply use the pick in the stone multiple times, a mineral or valuable may be traped inside of the stone. It is possible set a hotkey to a pick to hasten the process.
Shiny Stone
If you are lucky enough you may find shiny stones while mining. Use the pick in a shiny stone for a chance to get even more valuable gems, there is also a small chance to find Tibia Coins.
