Fishing is the art of catching fish. Simply use a Fishing Rod on water while holding worms to catch a fish. While every tile of water gives home to a single fish, after being caught it will take a decent amount of time for the fish to respawn.
Using a regular fishing rod can be used to catch multiple kind of fishes and even spawn sea creatures. Your fishing skill increases the chance that you will successfully catch a fish.
Using a mechanical fishing rod can be used to catch treasures from the sea. Your fishing skill increases the chance that you will successfully catch a find treasures.

Regular Fishing
Purchase a fishing rod and worms to use as bait at the village shops. The simply use the fishing rod in a water spot. If the water does not react you either can not fish there or an object is obstructing the rod line.
It is possible set a hotkey to a fishing rod to hasten the process, doing so also avoids the inconvenience of accidentally throwing your rod in the water. Your fishing skill will only rise if there is a fish in the water you are fishing in. It will not rise if you don't have worms inside your inventory, even if there is a fish in the water.
Treasure Fishing
For treasure fishing a mechanical fishing rod is required which can be obtained as random reward if you help the Academy Servant Sentry on his Daily Task: Abandonated Sewer.
The Servant Sentry will ask you for help to clean the slime fungus that has invaded the sewer. Use the slime gobbler to eat some of the slime fungus, once it's full report back about your task to recieve a reward.
If you were lucky enough you will recieve a mechanical fishing rod as reward, if you use it for fishing you may catch treasures while fishing. However your fishing skills will not improve much while using this special rod.
Fishing skills of level 50 or higher grants you a chance to fish Tibia Coins! The more skills the better the chance to get Tibia Coins.
Ice Fishing
Ice fishing is a way to get Fish, Green Perch, Northern Pike and Rainbow Trout. A pick is necesary for this mechanic.
Look around on snowy areas for ice sheets with small cracks in the ice then Use the pick on the fragile ice to open it.
When you've finished picking the weak place in the ice, you will see fish swimming under the ice.
Use your fishing rod on the ice hole. Just as normal fishing, it may take a few tries, depending on your luck and your Fishing level.
After 15 minutes, the hole will freeze over again, and you can repeat the ice fishing process for another fish.
